The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any prominent honors show approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary game development, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
